Where does our food and garden waste go? In Wollongong it gets turned into FOGO then comes back as soil to help grow our Tiny Forests. Undertake a range of experiments and activities in the garden’s own Tiny Forest to develop an understanding of this incredible closed loop waste process.
Students will:
- Use a range of scientific equipment to measure soil pH, temperature, infiltration rate, moisture content and runoff water quality both in and outside of the Tiny Forest
- Compare the data collected in the Tiny Forest and outside the Tiny Forest.
- Carry out a macro bug count in a transect both inside and outside the Tiny Forest and compare .
- Measure growth rates for the last three years on trees inside and outside the Tiny Forest and compare.
- Inspect our onsite compost system and compare to FOGO.
