Tiny Forest

This garden display is an example of how we can deliver big environmental impact in small spaces.

Inspired by the Miyawaki reforestation method, this area has been filled with plants representative of the locally occurring species found along the coastal plain and foothills of Wollongong, all sourced from our Botanic Garden Nursery.

Designed in the shape of lungs, it symbolises the fresh air it will bring, along with all the benefits of cooling the air, capturing carbon and creating habitat.

It was planted on 31 August 2022 with the help of Garden volunteers, the Friends of Wollongong Botanic Garden.

Plants selected for this Tiny Forest are representative of the locally occurring plant species found along the coastal plain and foothills of Wollongong.
