Investigate the delicate balance between diverse environments and the impact of human activity on sustainability.
Students will:
- Take a guided walk through Puckey's Estate, through a 1.5 km network of boardwalks and informal paths.
- Observe and discuss the interplay of natural ecosystems, such as rainforest, dunes, and marshlands, and analyse the impacts of human activity on these environments.
- Investigate coastal ecosystems and the effects of environmental change on biodiversity through a sand dune transect.
- Analyse vegetation patterns and soil characteristics to develop a deeper understanding of sustainable management practices necessary for preserving these fragile environments.
- Conduct a biodiversity survey using quadrats to identify and record various plant and animal species, fostering a deeper understanding of ecological interactions and the importance of conserving local habitats.
- Collect and observe aquatic life through a dip-net fishing activity, allowing them to explore the intricacies of marine ecosystems and understand the role of healthy waterways in supporting biodiversity.
