Wedding Ceremony Terms and Conditions
If you’re organising a wedding, you must follow the NSW Government’s current rules for ceremonies and receptions and have a COVID Safety Plan in place if required.
Rules for weddings can change at short notice, and we may be required to change or cancel your booking to meet any restrictions in place at the time of your booked activity. We will discuss this with you if the situation arises.
Make sure you carefully read this information before booking or holding a wedding or commitment ceremony at Wollongong Botanic Garden.
If you have any questions, email us or call (02) 4227 7667 during business hours.
Areas of the Botanic Garden can be booked by the hour, any day of the week.
The earliest available booking time is 9am, and bookings must finish at least one hour before the Garden closes. See our opening hours for times.
In consideration of other Garden visitors and hirers, your ceremony must not run over time.
A two week tentative booking period is available. This means you can reserve a date and time, then have up to two weeks to complete the booking form and return it to us with payment.
If the form and payment aren’t returned within two weeks, the booking will be cancelled.
A bond applies to all wedding bookings, in addition to hire costs. The bond will be fully refunded as long as the area of the Garden hired is left in the same condition as you found it. It can take around four weeks for bonds to be refunded.
Full payment is needed to confirm your booking.
Once your booking has been placed, you can request an invoice with information on how to pay online or over the phone by debit or credit card (0.05% fee applies). We cannot accept payment by American Express.
You can also pay by cheque or money order, payable to Wollongong City Council, and post to us at:
Wollongong Botanic Garden
Locked Bag 8821
WOLLONGONG DC NSW 2518
If you’re booking a wedding in the Rose Garden, an optional package is available including chairs and a small table. See our Wedding Hire Costs for pricing.
This package can be added to an existing Rose Garden booking either at the time of your initial booking, or up to six weeks before the wedding date.
When your booking is confirmed, you will be given a permit and map of the Garden. Please make sure you (or someone in the wedding party) carries this permit with you on the day.
Penalties may apply for people using the Garden for wedding ceremonies without a permit.
All cancellations must be received in writing (by email or post). Cancellations not related to bad weather must be received at least a week before your booking to receive a full refund.
If a cancellation is made at late notice due to weather, you must call us before your booking time and follow up in writing to receive a full refund.
We cannot provide undercover areas in case of bad weather. It is recommended that you arrange a back-up option for your ceremony in the event of bad weather. You may like to consider Wollongong Art Gallery or one of Wollongong City Council's Community Centres and Halls.
If you decide not to go ahead with your ceremony because of weather, you must call our staff on 0419 273 818 before your booking time to receive a full refund. You will also need to email us to begin the refund process – this can be done after your booking date.
If you do not call before your booking time to cancel for bad weather, only your bond will be refunded.
There is no vehicle access inside Wollongong Botanic Garden. This includes cars, delivery trucks, bikes and all other vehicles. Vehicles are not permitted to obstruct any access gates to the Garden, or the flow of traffic in the Murphy’s Avenue car park.
Please note there are no parking permits or reservations available for our car park. A two-hour parking limit applies. All wedding attendees and visitors are responsible for ensuring they park legally. The Botanic Garden will not be held liable for any penalties issued.
We can provide limited equipment as an additional package for weddings in the Rose Garden. For other sites (including the Rose Garden), you can bring in a sound system, table and chairs, which must be noted on your booking form. Please note, any approved equipment will need to be carried into the Garden, as vehicle access is not available.
The throwing of confetti, rice, rose petals or similar material is not allowed anywhere in the Garden.
Decorations cannot be attached to trees, plants, buildings, or other structures within the Garden. To protect our environment, no balloons are allowed.
You may use low-level pre-recorded music (on approved equipment provided by you) or a small live ensemble as part of your ceremony.
Note that there is no access to power, and generators are not allowed in the Garden under any circumstances. Make sure your sound system is portable and battery operated.
Wollongong Botanic Garden is an alcohol free zone. Wedding receptions cannot be held in our grounds.
You are welcome to take photographs in the Garden outside your booking time. There is no cost or time limit for photography in the Garden. However, any photography cannot disrupt other booked ceremonies or events within the Garden.
